Our fish collection contains more than 11,000 specimens of 902 species in 171 families and 31 orders. The collection started as early as in the 1950s. The majority of our collection is marine species coming from Hong Kong and adjacent waters which extends to the entire South China Sea. Most fish specimens were preserved with 10% formalin and some with 70% ethyl alcohol. Family names and scientific names mainly follow Froese and Pauly (1999) and Eschmeyer (1998).

Click on your favorite group, information including order/family/species names and dates of collections will be displayed. Apart from our own collection, we also provide the catalogue of fish specimens collected in Hong Kong and adjacent waters but housed in other museums. The catalogue contains 1064 records of 504 species in 126 families and 25 orders. Information of this catalogue was extracted from the database of FishBase (Froese and Pauly, 1999).
