The Catalogue of Fish Collections of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) is now available for public access via the internet! This is the first time such a complete computerized database is built on internet for the Hong Kong collection.

Our fish collection contains more than 11,000 specimens of 902 species in 171 families and 31 orders. The collection started as early as in the 1950s. The majority of our collection is marine species coming from Hong Kong and adjacent waters which extends to the entire South China Sea. Most fish specimens were preserved with 10%
formalin and some with 70% ethyl alcohol.

All specimens are kept at Aberdeen Fisheries Office (formerly known as Hong Kong Fisheries Research Station) of AFCD in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China.
