參考材料

有關本地魚類品種的文獻並不多，以致分類學研究受嚴重影響。早年的分類學研究十分倚賴有關鄰近水域魚類(例如南中國海的魚類)的參考材料。不過，從50年代到70年代，香港漁業研究站出版了一系列的著作，是研究區內魚類不可或缺的工具，其中最重要的是1968年W.L.Chan所著的Marine Fishes of Hong Kong Part I。該書共介紹71個魚類品種，牠們都是具高度商業價值的。此外，從事學術研究工作者亦有許多著作，其中最重要的是Marine fish fauna in Hong Kong waters (Ni and Kwok, 1999)及Reef Fishes of Hong Kong (Sadovy and Cornish, 2000)。資料庫亦選載了一些關於香港及鄰近水域魚類的文獻，供瀏覽人士參閱。
